Travis Frederick has started at center for the Dallas Cowboys in every game since he was drafted out of Wisconsin in the first round of the 2013 draft, so it comes as no surprise that the team plans on hanging onto him for awhile.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the team plans on exercising Frederick’s fifth-year option before the draft kicks off next Thursday.
Frederick’s four-year rookie deal is worth $6.87 million, and the option year will be worth $8.8 million. Of course they’ll hope to ease the cap hit there by coming to terms on a long-term deal with Frederick before the 2017 season, much as they did with left tackle Tyron Smith.
Frederick has made the Pro Bowl and been named Second-Team All-Pro in each of the past two seasons.
