Report: Cowboys Won't Pursue OT Eric Winston

Winston was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys’ No. 1 priority this offseason was upgrading the offensive line. They had a pretty  brutal run of things last year, even with new guards Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings. So it makes sense that when veteran tackle Eric Winston was released by the Chiefs, there was a good deal of talk about the Cowboys targeting him.

Indeed, reports had Dallas taking a serious look at Winston as recently as this week. But according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, the team is not pursuing the veteran.

To be fair, if the Cowboys aren’t going after Winston, it would make some sense. The real concern is the interior of the line, and our esteemed owner has expressed confidence in the aforementioned Bernadeau and Livings. There’s a good chance that right tackle Doug Free will be released before the offseason is out, but left tackle Tyron Smith was the Cowboys’ best lineman in 2012.
