Report: Chip Kelly Targeting Former Cowboys DL Coach For Eagles' DC Job

Todd Grantham served as the Cowboys defensive line coach from 2008-2009

The Philadelphia Eagles next defensive coordinator may have some fairly strong ties to the Dallas Cowboys.

According to CSN Philly’s Derrick Gunn, new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is currently in the process of trying to persuade University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to accept the same position on his staff. Grantham served as the Cowboys’ defensive line coach from 2008-2009 before departing to accept the aforementioned position at Georgia.

Last year, the Eagles defense was, for lack of a better term, bad. They weathered the midseason firing of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo, who was replaced by Todd Bowles. Bowles didn’t fare a whole lot better, as the team finished 29th in total defense.

Meanwhile, Grantham led a Bulldogs’ unit that finished 18th in the nation in terms of defense. Aside from Dallas, he has had stints in the NFL with the Colts, the Texans and the Browns, where he got three years of experience as an NFL defensive coordinator.
