Ranking: Ware Among League's Elite Pass Rushers

The good news for the Dallas Cowboys is that on their roster is, according to a ranking published recently on NFL.com, one of the four best pass rushers in the league. The bad news is that Ware is the only member of the Cowboys on the list of 25--in fact, the team is absent as well from the “also considered” list.

Ware has led the league in sacks two of the past three seasons (2008, 2010) and has recorded 80 sacks in 96 career games. His company in “Group A”, the highest echelon of the ranking, includes the Vikings’ Jared Allen, the Colts’ Dwight Freeney, the Steelers’ James Harrison and the Bears’ Julius Peppers.

Of these, Ware is the only one without a teammate on the list--which suggests, to some degree, that he is doing it with less help than, say, Harrison. Then again, if this list were published last year around this time, there’s a good chance that this wouldn’t be the case, as Anthony Spencer ended the 2009 season on an astounding note.

Whether Rob Ryan can get Spencer back to this level--and, if so, how this will affect Ware's performance--will be an interesting sub-plot when football returns.
