Ranking: Romo Was 14th Highest-Paid Athlete in '13

Tony Romo earned $26.5 million in salary last year

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo got a sweet payday a year ago when Jerry Jones & co. gave him an unprecedented six-year, $108 million extension. But how does that payday stack up against the rest of the sports world?

ESPN has the answer.

The so-called “Worldwide Leader” recently put together a ranking of the 25 highest paid athletes in the world based on their salary last year--endorsements are not taken into account--and Romo ranks 14th, between Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton (T-12) and Wayne Rooney, the English Premier League superstar (15).

Romo made $26.5 million last year in salary.

The NFL quarterback club is represented well on the list, with Aaron Rodgers (4), Matt Stafford (6), Tom Brady (7), Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco (T-9) joining Romo in the Top 15. The only non-QB NFL player in the Top 25 is Lions receiver Calvin Johnson.
