Phillips Admits Concern Over Buehler

Cowboys’ kicker David Buehler had a chance to tie things up at 3-3 with the Redskins in the second quarter of Sunday night’s loss, but sailed a 34-yard attempt wide right in his first meaningful chance as the team’s place kicker. The team is not, reportedly, reconsidering their options at the position this week, but head coach Wade Phillips did admit that there was some concern on part of the team after the miss.

Well it’s concern, yeah,” Phillips said after the 13-7 loss, per ESPN Dallas. “He kicked so well [until] that one kick. It’s only one kick, but I’d like to see him follow up with a better game.”

Buehler, who made 10 of 11 attempts in the preseason with a long of 51 yards, remains confident after missing on his first real attempt in the NFL, but understands that he must do better in the future, lest he force the team to reconsider him as a legitimate option at place kicker.

“I want to make them all and I wish I had another attempt to redeem myself but I didn’t,” Buehler said, per ESPN Dallas. “That’s just how kicking is. I need to make every one that’s put in front of me.

“I’ve just got to go out there and do my job. That’s the way I look at it. I’ve got to go out and make every kick.”
