Another week is coming to a close, and we’re still no closer to knowing anything about what the immediate future holds for Adrian Peterson.
As of Wednesday, Peterson is eligible for reinstatement, but there’s been no word from the league either way--meaning, for now, he remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt list, where he spent most of last season and where he’s been since he won the appeal of his indefinite suspension.
Peterson met with Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York last Tuesday, which many took as a sign that he would be reinstated when he became eligible.
Whether this means anything for the Cowboys, we don’t know. But we doubt it. As much as Jerry Jones loves Peterson, we’re approaching a draft loaded with talent at the running back position, where Dallas will be able to find a quality running back--not as good as Peterson, granted, but good--at a fraction of what the 30-year-old Peterson is set to earn in 2015.
That said, we’ve learned not to put anything past Jerry Jones, the man who reportedly really wanted to draft Johnny Manziel around this time last year.
UPDATE: Peterson has been notified by the league that he will be reinstated on Friday, April 17. Goodell informed Peterson in a letter that his reinstatement is contingent on his continued cooperation with authorities in Texas and Minnesota, as well as the fulfillment of commitments he made during the meeting with the Commissioner last Tuesday.
