Panthers Owner Made Decision to Cut Ties with Greg Hardy

Hardy was allowed to depart in free agency after the Panthers opted against re-signing him

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson made the decision to let defensive end Greg Hardy walk in free agency, Richardson told ESPN.com this week from the annual league meetings in Phoenix, AZ.

"Whose call would you think that would be?'' Richardson said.

Why was the decision made?

"We do the right things,” Richardson said.

The Dallas Cowboys signed Hardy to a one-year deal last week, despite the fact that the 2013 Pro Bowler is still on the Commissioner’s Exempt List and could face a suspension by the league, pending the findings of an NFL investigation into whether Hardy violated the personal conduct policy.

The move has come with plenty of controversy, not surprisingly, with no less than the Mayor of Dallas, Mike Rawlings, vocally criticizing the decision to bring Hardy into the fold.
