Pair of Cowboys Make List of Top 50 Free Agents

According to one NFL insider, two of the NFL’s top 50 pending free agents are members of the Dallas Cowboys.

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com published the list earlier this week, and included tackle Doug Free at no. 14 and defensive end Stephen Bowen at no. 27. Both men are considered priorities for the Cowboys once the lockout comes to an end, and both received tender offers prior to the stoppage.

However, under the proposed collective bargaining agreement, both Free and Bowen would be considered unrestricted free agents and have a chance to test the market.

Prisco called Free the Cowboys best offensive lineman in 2010 before pausing to ask “Was it a one-year thing or a sign of things to come? The Cowboys want him back.”

Indeed they do--and ditto for Bowen. With Marcus Spears likely to be gone in 2011, Dallas is more or less banking on the combination of Bowen and Jason Hatcher manning the ends of the defensive front in the future. However, Prisco believes he could be a prized target for teams with a 3-4, calling him a “real free-agent sleeper.”
