Owusu-Ansah To Debut Return Skills At San Diego

Rookie safety Akwasi-Owusu Ansah is scheduled to make his preseason debut on Saturday in San Diego, and his duties won’t be limited to the secondary. Owusu-Ansah will also be used in the return game, according to head coach Wade Phillips, a role he filled with record-breaking success at Division II Indiana (Pa.) University.

We need to get a look at him,” Phillips said, per the Dallas Morning News.

In four years with the Crimson Hawks, Owusu-Ansah returned 53 kickoffs for 1,371 yards, an average of 25.9 yards a return, and three touchdowns; he returned 70 punts for 788 yards (an 11.3 average) and four touchdowns.

Owusu-Ansah missed all of mini-camp and OTAs this offseason while recovering from a pre-draft shoulder procedure, but the team remains high on his athletic ability, as well as his versatility--he can play cornerback as well as safety (though he will be used as a safety by Dallas), and, obviously, return punts and kicks.  He practiced with the team for the first time a little over a week ago, but was held out of last Thursday’s match-up with Oakland.
