The Opponent: The Philadelphia Eagles.
Record: 10-5. NFC East Champions. The Eagles are locked into the 3 seed in the NFC and have nothing to play for on Sunday. They may even sit Mike Vick (if they have brains). And wouldn’t that be nice?
The Line: Eagles by 12. Looks appealing now that you know what you know, doesn’t it? LET IT RIDE!
Last Game: Last night’s desultory 24-14 loss to Minnesota in which Mike Vick was outplayed by Joe Webb(!) and Philly blew a shot at a first round bye. It was arguably their worst performance of the year and it came at the hands of a Vikings team that was just praying for the season to be over.
The Coach: Andy Reid. Did Andy punt the ball down 10 points with less than five minutes to go last night? You know he did.
The Offense: Well, it would be much better if they could, you know, block. The Eagles have terrible pass protection, which wasn’t problem for them until last night, as they had the league’s #1 offense and more big plays than any team in the NFL. This offense relies on Vick scrambling around and buying enough time to either get the ball way down the field or take off running for a casual 30-yard gain. The Vikings held Vick in check by applying constant pressure and doing a fine job of covering DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Something tells me the Cowboys secondary is not quite as well built for that task.
The Defense: Not all that great without Stewart Bradley out there. Kurt Coleman made some nice plays for Philly last night, but this is a green defense that still is prone to lapses, particularly against the pass. Peterson ran all over them last night.
Key Matchup: Jackson vs. Mike Jenkins. Let’s see if Jenkins can redeem a putrid season by just once not getting burned like a candle wick.
