Orlando Scandrick Suddenly an Elder Statesman

Scandrick has been in Dallas for six seasons now

As a six-year veteran of the Dallas Cowboys, cornerback Orlando Scandrick has found himself in the position of elder statesman for what is a young and generally unproven defense.

With DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher in Denver and Washington, respectively, and with the loss of defensive captain Sean Lee to a torn ACL last week, the need for Scandrick to step into a leadership role has never been greater. For his part, Scandrick believes he is ready to answer the call.

"It's a lot, it's humbling," Scandrick said of the loss of Lee, per ESPN Dallas. "I feel like with Sean, I look around, [and] out of all these faces, I've been here the longest. The onus is kind of on myself. I gotta just work every day.

β€œLeadership ain't all about screaming and hollering. You can get anybody who can scream and holler and tell you what they've done and what the accolades are. ... I put it on myself to try and figure out a way to motivate and motivate our defense and motivate our secondary and motivate our corners. Losing Sean Lee was a tough pill to swallow.”
