New RBs Coach Gary Brown Believes Murray Has Makings of a Star

DeMarco Murray will enter the 2013 season as the Cowboys bell cow

New running backs coach Gary Brown hasn’t spoken much to DeMarco Murray since being hired last week, but like many around Dallas who have seen the Oklahoma product show flashes of sheer brilliance over two, injury-hampered seasons in the league, he believes he can be among the best runners in the league.

I believe so,” Brown said, per the Dallas Morning News. “We all know that the injury bug has bit him a little bit. We have to keep him healthy, and he and I will work together to just refine some of his things and get him better. Obviously he is a good, talented runner. We just want to shine up some of his things and get him to be an elite runner.”

The Cowboys have made it clear that Murray is the bell cow moving forward, but Brown knows that the backfield will only be helped by finding a consistent complement to the starter.

“You probably just want a guy that’s going to come in and complement him in the way maybe of just being, maybe more of a jitterbug type guy,” Brown said. “It’s hard to say. I’ve only been here a few days.”
