NFL Says Catch Committee Will Welcome Input from Dez, Others

Dez Bryant offered his services to the committee this week

The NFL’s much discussed but not yet formed catch committee will be open to input from Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson and any other current player, an NFL spokesman told Pro Football Talk on Thursday.

“Input from everyone in football, including current players, is always encouraged and welcomed,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said. “The Competition Committee meets at the [Scouting] Combine every year with current players and the NFLPA on potential rules changes. Current players have the opportunity to make suggestions on potential new rules or modifications.”

Bryant, whose name has been attached to this debate ever since his catch against Green Bay in the Divisional Round of the playoffs last year was overturned on review, let it be known this week that he would like to help the NFL in their ongoing quest to define a catch in a way that’s both simple and comprehensive.

The Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson, who has had some similar bad luck with the catch rules in the past, also offered his services.
