NFC East Watch: Redskins Ink RG III To Four-Year Deal

The Redskins made Robert Griffin III the second overall pick in April's Draft

The Washington Redskins announced Wednesday that they have signed Robert Griffin III, officially bringing the second overall pick of the 2012 Draft and (they hope, anyway) the next franchise quarterback of the Redskins into the fold.

Griffin III’s deal is worth $21.1 million over four years, with an option for a fifth. The deal also includes a shiny, $13.8 million signing bonus for the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner. According to the Washington Post, Griffin III will make the rookie minimum of $390,000 in 2012.

Unsurprisingly, with the way these things go nowadays, RG III announced the news himself, via Twitter (sic, of course):  “Well people.... It's Time to go to Work!!! off the unemployment line and oh yeah HTTR!!!!"

Meanwhile Washington’s rivals to the southwest, the Dallas Cowboys, have yet to sign their first overall pick, LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne. But Claiborne recently insisted that he is prepared to report for camp with or without a deal.
