NFC East Watch: Coughlin Interviewing with 49ers

Tom Coughlin parted ways with the Giants a little over a week ago

Longtime New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has been busy since stepping down from that position a week ago.

Coughlin is meeting with the 49ers about their head coaching vacancy on Tuesday, according to FOX Sports.

The two-time Super Bowl winner met with the Philadelphia Eagles first, on Monday, but where that might have only been a kind of information gathering session, his interview with the 49ers shows that there’s some serious interest in the 69-year-old among those teams with coaching vacancies.

The 49ers fired Jim Tomsula after one season just hours after the team’s loss to the St. Louis Rams in their regular season finale. The Eagles, of course, let go of Chip Kelly abruptly on December 29, before their finale.

Interestingly enough, Kelly is among the other candidates to be interviewed by the 49ers to this point. Aside from Kelly and Coughlin, the 49ers have interviewed Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter.
