Rookie running back DeMarco Murray has been named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month honors for the month of November, which saw the OU product emerge from relative obscurity among Phillip Tanner and Tashard Choice behind Felix Jones, to a starter and a potential star.
Murray put up a touchdown and 434 yards on 89 carries over the month--a span that saw Dallas go 4-0 and take the lead in the NFC East--while adding another 156 in the passing game. On the year, he has 834 yards on 147 carries and two scores.
As ESPN Dallas points out today, Murray is just the second Cowboys’ rookie to earn the honor on the offensive side of the ball--joining Julius Jones who won the award back in November of 2004--and the fourth overall--joining Dexter Coakley and DeMarcus Ware, who were named the NFL Defensive Rookies of the Month in October of 1997 and October 2005, respectively.
