Monte Kiffin Pursuing Marinelli?

Former Bears' defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli spent ten seasons under Kiffin in Tampa Bay

If the rumors are true, the Dallas Cowboys defensive staff could be pretty loaded in 2012.

As you may have heard, Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli departed the team this week after four seasons. Interesting for Cowboys’ fans, Marinelli has strong connection to new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, as the two spent ten seasons together in Tampa Bay. Now, folks in Dallas are wondering if Kiffin won't make a play to add Marinelli to his staff in Dallas.

If he were to come to Dallas, Marinelli would fill the role of defensive line coach, the same role he held under Kiffin in Tampa.

After his stint with the Buccaneers, Marinelli departed for Detroit, where he coached the Lions for three seasons before moving on to the Bears. He has been in the NFL since 1996.

Of course, there is good reason for Cowboys’ fans to temper their excitement. Namely, it's fairly likely that the highly respected Marinelli will land another defensive coordinator gig, and sooner than later. Considering, here’s hoping Marinelli really, really wants to be reunited with Kiffin.
