Free Agent Michael Sam Working Out in McKinney

Sam spent almost seven weeks on the Cowboys practice squad during the 2014 season

Michael Sam is still chasing his NFL dream.

Since January Sam, who became the first openly gay player to be drafted to the NFL last May when the St. Louis Rams took him in the seventh round, has been working out with a handful of NFL players at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney.

According to Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News, among those he’s been seen lifting with are Browns’ linebacker Craig Robertson, Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah and former Cowboys defensive end Martez Wilson.

Despite recording three sacks for the Rams in the preseason, he was among the team’s final cuts in August. Less than a week later, he was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad, where he stayed for almost seven weeks before being released.

“I will take the lessons I learned here in Dallas and continue to fight for an opportunity to prove that I can play every Sunday,” Sam said after his release.
