University of Texas product Colt McCoy will start against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night if Robert Griffin III isn’t ready to go, Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said on Monday.

McCoy led the Redskins to a comeback win over the Titans after Kirk Cousins was benched. Griffin hasn’t played since Week 2, when he suffered a dislocated ankle, and Gruden doesn’t sound all that optimistic that he’ll be ready for the Cowboys.

"He still has a long ways to go to show that he can play, to show that his ankle is 100 percent,” Gruden said, per ESPN. “He has to be 100 percent ready to go. We don't want to put him out there at 85 percent, have it be weak and have him do something else to it. We want to make sure he's ready to go when he's out there.”

McCoy went 11 for 12 against Tennessee, a performance that, for obvious reasons, drew some high praise from Gruden.

"He does have great intangibles," Gruden said. "He's a very good competitor. I feel like he'll get us in the right play and make the right throw. I've always liked his demeanor. He has the intangibles to be a good quarterback. He has a great opportunity Monday."
