Are you ready for a full season of Kellen Moore as your backup quarterback?
Not that it’s a done deal, but as Colt McCoy re-signed with the Redskins Wednesday morning the strategy at Valley Ranch seems to be stick with Moore as No. 2 behind Tony Romo next season and use a draft pick on the quarterback of the future who, for now, will be No. 3 on the depth chart.
I’m not sold on Moore. And I was intrigued by McCoy.
Moore put up some decent stats last season as a desperation Plan D in the wake of an injury to Romo and disgusting ineffectiveness by Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel.
In the finale, for example, he threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns, but not after a couple of interceptions that introduced us to early garbage time in a meaningless game. But did we really see anything to give us confidence that he could step in and win a game? Or two?
The Cowboys may indeed draft a quarterback at No. 4. I think that would be a mistake. Similar to entering the season without a proven veteran to back up Romo.
