Mat McBriar May Be Pro Bowl Bound

One the whole, the Dallas Cowboys haven’t had much to be happy about in the 2010 season, and, certainly, the questions will abound moving into 2011. One area where there is no question, however--and however little consolation it may be to fans--is at punter, where Mat McBriar is having a red letter year, one that may earn him his second consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl.

To say that McBriar has put this season together quietly goes without saying--because he is a punter, and there’s not really any other way to go about it for those guys. But he has been good. Really, really good.

McBriar leads the NFL in gross average with 48.2
yards per punt; he also leads in net average with 41.9 yards per punt, a number that suffered a blow when the Colts’ blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown last Sunday. He has pinned opponents inside their own 20 yard line 16 times, and opponents are averaging just 5.5 return yards on punts.

We guess our point here is that McBriar is really, really good.
