Mark Brunell Thinks Arian Foster Could Be a Contributor in Dallas

Foster was released Thursday by the Texans after seven seasons

Longtime Houston Texans running back Arian Foster was released by the team on Thursday, which (what with it being the offseason) set in motion a whole lot of speculation about where he might land in 2016.

On NFL Live, former NFL quarterback Mark Brunell threw Dallas out there as a good possibility.

"Jerry Jones can say all he wants how comfortable he is with his current running backs, but they need somebody,” Brunell says. “You need that 1-2 punch in today’s football. ... Darren McFadden had a good season last year [for the Cowboys]. Pretty solid, over 1,000 yards. But injuries are always a concern.”

Jerry Jones has indicated that the team is more likely to address the running back position through the draft than free agency, but Brunell believes a healthy Foster could contribute in a more limited role than anything he ever saw in Houston.

"I think if Arian Foster gets healthy, he still has some football left in him,” Brunell said. “But he's gotta humble himself, remind himself that he's not the premier guy. He's a complement now. But he can still add value to a football team."
