Marinelli Remembers Chicago Fondly

Rod Marinelli spent four seasons in Chicago before coming to the Cowboys

A coach that is loved by his players, past and present, we imagine defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli will be getting a lot of Bear hugs prior to the Cowboys’ game in Chicago on Thursday night.

Marinelli spent four seasons with the Bears before coming to Dallas two years ago--one season as defensive line coach and three seasons as defensive coordinator--and has fond memories of his time in the Second City.

I had a terrific four years there and it couldn’t have been better,” Marinelli said this week. “I love the players there and it’s another good ballgame for us.”

Marinelli loved a couple of players enough to bring them to Dallas this offseason. He played a role in the acquisition of former Bears Amobi Okoye, who won’t play this year due to a rare medical condition and Henry Melton, who is currently leading the Cowboys in sacks with five.

Defensive end Jeremy Mincey has no connection to the Bears, but is ready to lay it on the line on Thursday on behalf of his teammate Melton, and his coach, Marinelli.

“I think Henry and Coach (Rod) Marinelli are ready to play a great game,” Mincey said. “We definitely got their backs.”
