Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith expressed some concern earlier this week that Johnny Manziel’s off-the-field exploits could lead to a short NFL career, that Manziel needed to do some maturing.
"That lifestyle is going to be a short lifestyle--a short career lifestyle--if he continues that," Smith told 105.3-FM The Fan. "As we used to say, you can't keep burning the candle at both ends of the stick. The candle gets small fairly quick. Johnny is going to have to figure it out.”
Manziel responded on Friday, saying he respects what Smith had to say, but that he isn’t planning on changing because, per Cleveland.com, “I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong.”
Manziel made the declaration after the NFL Rookie Symposium's Play 60 youth football clinic.
“I'm not going to change for anybody," Manziel said. "I'm going to enjoy my time off.”
