They don’t call him Lucky for nothing.

Cowboys’ receiver/kick returner Lucky Whitehead changed plans for his 24th birthday party last Saturday night. Good thing, because his original destination – Dallas’ V Live club – was the site of an incident that left Broncos’ cornerback Aqib Talib shot in the leg.

“I’m glad I didn’t make it there,” Whitehead told reporters during his team’s OTAs at Valley Ranch. “Definitely that whole thing. I guess it’s true nothing good happens after midnight. It’s something you put in the back of your head. When I heard about it, I was definitely happy I never made it back over there.”

Whitehead and friends (including a few teammates) changed venues but on their way home drove by V Live and saw police and an ambulance in the parking lot.

It’s been a relatively quiet offseason off the field for the Cowboys. Luckily.

A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
