Lovie Smith: Melton, Marinelli a “Great Combination”

Last time Henry Melton and Rod Marinelli worked together, Melton went to a Pro Bowl

Suffice to say, new defensive tackle Henry Melton thinks pretty highly of Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

He’s a great guy,” Melton recently told the team’s official website. “I am excited to play for him. He genuinely cares about you as a person, not just what you can do for him on the field. Of course, he cares about that. But he actually does care about you off the field.”

The last time Melton and Marinelli worked together, with the Bears in 2012, Melton went to a Pro Bowl. Then Chicago’s head coach, the Buccaneers’ Lovie Smith had a front row seat for Melton’s career year.

“That’s a great combination,” Smith said of Melton and Marinelli. “Henry will tell you, the guy that had the most to do with his progress as a defensive linemen, of course it was Rod. Rod is just a great technician and was able to really reach him.”
