Lonyae Miller Saves The Day

Rookie running back Lonyae Miller has been a member of the active roster of the Dallas Cowboys for less than a week, but he may well have already saved a game for the team.

Miller had been a member of the practice squad all season, but was promoted on Thursday to the team’s active roster. On Sunday, with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ overtime victory over the Colts, and with the game scored at 35-35, Bryan McCann muffed a punt.

Had Miller not leaped on the ball, Indianapolis would have had the ball well in field goal range, with around 30 seconds on the clock. Rather, Dallas let the clock run out, forcing overtime, and eventually winning on a David Buehler field goal.

The first thing in my mind was ‘jump on it, bottle it up tight’” said the rookie, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, “because I knew there were going to be guys all over me trying to rip it out. So I got on top of it and held on for dear life and just left no doubt. I didn’t let go of that ball until the ref said ‘OK, you can get up.’”
