Sometimes the road less traveled eventually takes you where you need to be. This seems to be the case for Laurent Robinson.
The wide receiver has not only landed himself a spot on the Dallas Cowboys roster, he has proved to be a valuable weapon in their offense.
But it hasn't been easy.
Robinson was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2007. He spent two years there before catching on with the St. Louis Rams for two more years. Injuries really kept Robinson from fulfilling his potential. He was with the San Diego Chargers after the lockout before they cut him at the end of preseason.
The Cowboys, who held scrimmages with the Chargers, liked what they saw. They signed him in Week 1, but Robinson injured himself soon after and was cut in Week 2. Here's where it gets good.
A week later, starter Miles Austin suffered a hamstring injury. The Cowboys, in desperate need of another receiver, sign Robinson back for Week 3. Needless to say, he's made the most of his second opportunity.
Robinson quickly earned his keep in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions at Cowboys Stadium, with seven catches for 116 yards. The Cowboys lost after the Lions made a tremendous comeback, but Robinson was the lone star for Dallas.

That was just the opening act.
Robinson has continued to be a target for Tony Romo, gathering 27 catches for 441 yards and four touchdowns, including a 58-yard burner against the Bills in Week 10.
Not bad for a castaway.
With Austin still nursing injuries, the arrival of Robinson prevents defenses from doubling down on Dez Bryant and provides another weapon for the Cowboys offense. Robinson has turned into the third receiver the Cowboys hoped he would be, and has also proven he can be a second receiver if needed.
And more importantly, Robinson is the kind of investment Jerry Jones likes, low risk-high reward.
Turns out the road less traveled has benefited everyone involved.
