Lance Dunbar Focused More on Recovery Than Free Agency

Dunbar tore his ACL and his MCL back on October 4 of last year

Dallas Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar is in a strange spot.

For one, the UNT product is about to become an unrestricted free agent. He’s also coming off a season-ending ACL and MCL tear, which you could argue cut short what was sure looking early like a career year for Dunbar.

Dunbar had 67 yards on five carries and 215 yards on 21 catches out of the backfield when his season came to an end on October 4—that’s Week 4.

There’s not much I really can do—I got hurt. Whatever happens, happens,” Dunbar told the team’s official website. “I’m not really focused on that. I’m just trying to get back healthy. I’ve got to get back healthy before anything happens so I can get back to playing at a high level like I was before.”

Dunbar still doesn’t have a concrete idea of when he’ll return to football activities.

“There’s really no timetable, it just depends on how my body heals,” he said. “I’m just taking it slow depending on how I feel. I’m kind of pushing it a little bit because that’s just me—I feel like that’s the way to get better is to work hard. But there’s not really no timetable—just taking it day-by-day.”
