La'el Collins to Compete for Right Tackle Job

The Dallas Cowboys are giving La'el Collins a shot at right tackle.

According to the Cowboys' website, head coach Jason Garrett confirmed that the second-year offensive lineman out of LSU will compete for the position vacated when Doug Free retired.

"I've talked to coach about it," Collins said. "He just told me that going into it, that's where he wants me to be."

Collins was an offensive tackle in college, but played mostly left guard in his rookie year in Dallas. He was widely considered to be the top offensive tackle in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Collins will compete with 2015 third round pick Chaz Green and free agent Byron Bell for the right tackle job.

Reserve offensive linemen Jonathan Cooper — the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft — and Joe Looney could replace Collins at left guard if he wins the job.
