Cowboys guard La’el Collins started 11 games in his rookie season, and made something of a habit of delivering highlight reel blocks, but he sees plenty of room for improvement going into 2016.
“For me as a young player, I haven’t even scratched the surface of the real complete player I want to become,” Collins said, per the team’s official website.
Signed as an undrafted free agent, the Cowboys made Collins earn his job from the incumbent starter at left guard, Ronald Leary, and he did in October. The rest of the season was a mixed bag for Collins individually, with a lot of highs and and a lot of lows—pancake blocks that would make you jump out of your seat, but also a lot of rookie mistakes.
“A bunch of them,” Collins said. “When I look at it, I look at maybe a play on second down where I could have held my blocks longer and made it better for us in the third-down situation, things like that that can help the team win.
“Those small things, things like that I’m going to be really focusing on that I don’t make those mistakes next year.”
