Lacewell: “To Fall Into Monte Kiffin Is Just A Gift”

Larry Lacewell was the Cowboys' scouting director from 1992-2004

The hiring of Monte Kiffin as the Dallas’ new defensive coordinator is being lauded by at least one of the architects of the Cowboys’ championship run of the early- to mid-1990s.

Larry Lacewell served as the Cowboys’ scouting director from 1992-2004, a span in which the team won three Super Bowls, and he believes that the Kiffin hire was the best the team has ever made--well, with one fairly obvious exception, anyway.

Frankly, I think it’s the best hire the Cowboys have ever made,” Lacewell said shortly after the ink on the deal dried, per ESPN Dallas. “Well, other than Jimmy [Johnson].”

As you might guess from his high praise in the wake of the signing, Lacewell and Kiffin are old pals.

“To fall into Monte Kiffin is just a gift,” said Lacewell. “To pull this off is just a coup. Whoever thought of this was real smart.”
