The Dallas Cowboys mandatory mini-camp kicked off this morning at Valley Ranch, and backup quarterback Kyle Orton was not there.
Orton has remained absent from Valley Ranch all through the offseason conditioning program and OTAs, and reportedly wants to retire. The Cowboys, on the other hand, are hopeful that Orton willl change his mind--which doesn’t seem too likely at this point--and play out the final year of his contract.
Dallas added quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Caleb Hanie this offseason. Weeden figures to be the No. 2 behind Tony Romo if, as all signs at this point indicate, Orton walks away from the game.
For missing the mandatory mini-camp, Orton could be fined up to $70,000.
