Kowalski Ready To Start If Costa Can't Go

Starting center Phil Costa suffered a concussion against the Giants

With starting center Phil Costa struggling to return to the field following a concussion, rookie Kevin Kowalski is preparing for the possibility that he will see his first regular season NFL start next Saturday night against the Bucs in Tampa.

Costa suffered the concussion in Sunday night’s loss to the New York Giants, and was replaced by Kowalski for the rest of the game.

An undrafted rookie out of Toledo, Kowalski started the Cowboys’ third preseason game, the so-called dress rehearsal game--and did well, at least insofar as keeping Tony Romo off the injury report was concerned. Jerry Jones remains optimistic that Kowalski will be able to go, but as we saw in the case of Miles Austin a couple weeks ago, Jones’ optimism has occasionally been misplaced.

“I just have to be prepared either way and be ready to go,” Kowalski said, per ESPN Dallas. “That’s my role, and that’s what I have to do.”
