Kitna Making A Difference With His Feet

“Mobile” is not a word attached to 38-year-old Jon Kitna’s name very often, but in 2010, the veteran has made an undeniable difference with his own brand of not so much mobility per se, but the knowledge of when to tuck the ball and take off running--or, in his case, plodding.

They say the stats don’t lie, and Kitna ranks 10th in the NFL with respect to running quarterbacks. With 140 yards on 30 carries, the veteran ranks just behind the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger with respect to rushing, and just ahead of the Tennessee Titans’ Vince Young. Which, when you say it out loud, or write it down, is a little crazy.

He's made some really good plays with his feet over the last month and a half,” interim coach Jason Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He's gotten himself out of trouble. He's made some positive plays.

“He avoids the sack. He throws a little check-down to somebody. It's a four-yard gain or maybe it's an incompletion, maybe it's a run that he makes that's not going to show up on the highlight film. But those are the plays that keep drives alive, that keep you out of trouble. It's when you're playing quarterback really well, you make those kinds of plays in addition to some of the more obvious ones.”
