Kitna Key To Dallas Defense This Week

One of the most important players’ to the success of the Cowboys’ defense, leading into Sunday’s match-up with the Chicago Bears, isn’t a defensive player at all; far from it. In fact, he’s not even a starter.

Second-string quarterback Jon Kitna knows well the intricacies of a Mike Martz offense, the result of their shared time in Detroit and he’s spent the past week sharing that knowledge with the Cowboys. In doing so the team hopes they can get a good idea of the reads Jay Cutler will make during Sunday’s home opener.

“He does know that system and knows where they’re going to throw the ball,” Wade Phillips said, per ESPN Dallas. “He’s throwing it quick in practice for us and knows some of the things they’re talking about. He was giving us an idea of what the quarterback’s looking for.

“That’s been good work for us.”
