Kiper Has Cowboys Taking Oregon DE Buckner in First Mock Draft

Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner is the reigning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year

There’s been a lot of talk about the Dallas Cowboys selecting a quarterback of the future in the upcoming draft, but ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper has the team going defense with their fourth overall pick in his first mock draft of the season.

Kiper has Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner going to the Cowboys in what would represent a continuation of the team’s quest to shore up the pass rush with premium picks, which started two years ago with the selection of DeMarcus Lawrence in the second round and continued last year, with the second round selection of Randy Gregory.

Despite those picks, the team could still use depth at the position. Jack Crawford, Jeremy Mincey and Greg Hardy are all pending free agents.

At 6-foot-7, 290 pounds, Buckner had 10.5 sacks in his senior season for the Ducks in 2015 and was named an All-American and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
