JerryWorld Getting New Turf

Cowboys Stadium is getting a new playing surface for the first time since its opening in 2009

Cowboys Stadium will have a new look in 2013. Well, kind of.

Dallas has begun the process of installing new field turf at JerryWorld as, according to Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas, all the rolling up and storing and, unrolling and installing of the field turf for various events at the venue since its opening in 2009 has taken its toll on the playing surface.

It now has some frays here and there, leading the team to bring in a new surface that will be installed in a different way--a process involving glue that, Dallas hopes, will get rid of any seams.

The high school and college teams that play at Cowboys Stadium won’t benefit from the new turf, however. Dallas reportedly wants to change the turf they use for those games as well, but there are no immediate plans for the replacement turf.

One other somewhat interesting tidbit: the Cowboys are reportedly considering using the old turf to make a third playing field at Valley Ranch, but are hesitant to do so since they’re considering moving team headquarters in the coming year or so.
