Jerry: “We're the Glitz and Glamour of the NFL”

Jerry Jones is proud to declare his team the most glitzy in all of football

Jerry Jones has been known to deliver some odd comments from time to time, and Monday night was one of those times.

At an event to announce a partnership between Swiss watchmaker Hublot and the Cowboys, Jones declared the Cowboys the shiniest franchise in the league, playoff drought or no playoff drought.

We’re the glitz and glamour of the NFL,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. “Tex Schramm told me, ‘Let Houston down there at the time, let them have the checkered table clothes and saw-dust floors. Cowboys do not mean getting on a horse and riding. They mean the glitz and glamour of Dallas.’ That’s what we want to be. And obviously we want to show how to kick their you-know-what with glitz and glamour.”

Problem is, the Cowboys haven’t done much kicking of you-know-whats of recent. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2009, also the last time they finished with a record over .500. The past three seasons have been a study in mediocrity, with three 8-8 finishes and three losses in Week 17 win-and-in games.

Given this middling, head coach Jason Garrett attempted to draw a distinction between the organization--which, he acknowledges, is full of glitz and glamour--and the team on the field.

“Maybe that’s a reference to the organization and the history and the deal that they made with Hublot, a watchmaker from Switzerland,” Garrett said. “Certainly our football team is based on having the right kind of guys who love to play football and go out there and work hard each and every day and try to have the kind of demeanor, attitude, body language of a tough-minded football team. That’s what we’re trying to build here. Business decisions are different than what we’re trying to accomplish with our football team.”
