Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones tried and failed to trade back into the first round on Thursday night to select Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch, and he was apparently so disappointed, he spent much of the weekend talking about it.
Jones roundly applauded the Broncos getting Lynch the night of, then said he lost sleep over his inability to grab the Memphis product the next day—specifically he said he only managed three hours of sleep before waking up and venting to several people about the ill-fated move on Friday morning.
“I was still mad about it,” Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Actually thought we had it done.”
He also said publicly that he should’ve overpaid, if it took overpaying to get Lynch in Dallas.
“When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time,” Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it.
“And I probably should have overpaid here.”
