In December, when Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones first delivered his assessment of Tony Romo’s immediate future with the team during the regular season, saying the franchise quarterback had four or five good years left, we thought that was a hugely optimistic guess.
After all, Jones first came up with the prediction in the wake of Romo’s second collarbone fracture of the season and, even if he was coming off a perfectly healthy year, he’ll be 36 next month.
But Jones isn’t backing away from it. In fact, he’s operating under the assumption that they have Romo for the next half decade.
"What is the one unequivocal fact that you can count on relative to the preparation of this draft and on draft day is that I'm planning on Romo being the quarterback for the next four or five years," Jones said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "That's a fact. You won't see a decision on draft day that will fly in the face of not believing from our standpoint that he'll be our quarterback for four or five years."
