Jerry: Free “Nothing Short of Amazing”

Jerry Jones was highly impressed by Doug Free's debut at right guard

Considering that Doug Free is a tackle, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was more than a little impressed by his performance at right guard against the Cincinnati Bengals. In fact, Jones was left amazed by Free’s debut at the position.

"First of all Doug Free was nothing short but amazing; He’s never played guard," Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3-FM The Fan, via ESPN Dallas. "You ask the question are there things guard might require you to address some of the things that Doug has always tried to do in his game and that might be the case. You need quicker hands inside and he was naturally up to the task. He was quick with his hands, that was a real plus."

It’s unclear how long this experiment will last.

If Ronald Leary is able to return in time for the season opener on September 8, he will likely take over at left guard and Mackenzy Bernadeau will slide over to his old position of right guard. Free would then be free to return to right tackle.
