Jerry, Cowboys Hope Gregory's Youth Leads to Quicker Recovery

Randy Gregory suffered a high ankle sprain in the season opener

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is hoping Randy Gregory’s youth might lead to quicker recovery from a high ankle sprain, suffered in the third quarter of Sunday night’s come-from-behind victory over the Giants in the season opener.

Jones made his hopes for the 22-year-old Gregory known in an interview Tuesday with the New School show on 105.3-FM The Fan.

"To be playing at the level and to be the player he is, he's exceptionally young, so that's got a lot going for it in this particular case," Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. "Those high ankle sprains just need a certain amount of time. Everybody's different. We're hopeful that his will be a quicker healing ankle sprain or he'll be able to operate on it sooner than later. He'll certainly be out this week."

Jones was less sure about the status of left guard Ronald Leary. Leary was forced to leave Sunday night’s game with a groin injury, and was replaced by Mackenzy Bernadeau. But with La’el Collins on the roster, some have wondered if the injury to Leary won’t thrust him into his NFL debut.

"Well, that depends upon Leary," Jones said. "Leary really played well. ... Mackenzy [Bernadeau] really came in and played well. ... Leary could give it a try this weekend."
