Not that Cowboys fans needed any reminding, but new defensive end Jeremy Mincey will be the first to tell you he is not DeMarcus Ware.
A former Jaguar, Mincey was signed to a two-year deal worth $4.5 million on Wednesday, the same day Ware signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Broncos. Of course, the Cowboys aren’t expecting Mincey to replace Ware’s production singlehandedly, but they’re hoping he (along with others) can help toward that end.
“I’m not trying to come in and replace D-Ware,” Mincey said, per ESPN Dallas. “You can’t replace players like that, you know what I mean? You can’t replace a player like DeMarcus Ware, but you can improvise and find guys with different gifts and different talents and see what happens.”
Back in 2011 as a member of the Jaguars, Mincey had his best year, with a career-high eight sacks--which isn’t bad at all, granted. But Ware had never had a season with fewer than eight sacks until last season when he had six in 13 games.
“I’m trying to live up to my expectations and the organization’s expectations,” Mincey said. “I didn’t sign a deal like DeMarcus Ware’s so why would you expect me to be D-Ware? That should be out of people’s minds. DeMarcus Ware is definitely a player I do respect and always will respect to the utmost, but I’m just focused on being the best I can be for the Dallas Cowboys.”
