It certainly sounds like veteran defensive end Jeremy Mincey’s time in Dallas is winding to an end.
Mincey officially played out his two-year contract as of Sunday afternoon, and will become an unrestricted free agent in March. The 32-year-old recorded 19 tackles and no sacks in 14 games on the year—this after leading the Cowboys with six sacks in 2014—and apparently, did so with a really hurt elbow.
Cleaning out his locker Monday, Mincey told reporters he would schedule surgery next week to have bone spurs removed from his right elbow, which made it so he couldn’t straighten that arm throughout the year.
Now Mincey says he’d like to return, but he also doesn’t sound like a man who thinks that’s all that likely.
“I would love to come back. I love the Cowboys. I love everything about the organization. I grew up as a kid wanting to be a Cowboy,” Mincey said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I just hate it ended this way. Who knows what the future brings. I'm just optimistic about the future. I plan on going on a real thorough training this offseason, getting my elbow fixed and take to my game to heights I know it can go.
“Whoever grabs Mr. Mincey is going to get one of the hungriest players in the league. I'm not leaving this game without a Super Bowl, regardless of who I play for.”
