Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett went out of his way to praise the fans at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night, who saw the team cruise to a 38-17 victory over the visiting New Orleans Saints.
This was anything but a given going into the game. In the hours leading up to kickoff, we were hearing reports that the crowd could be split 50/50 between Cowboys fans and Saints fans. But, certainly helped along by the team’s hot start, the Cowboys supporters’ presence was felt much, much more than that of the Saints’ supporters.
They stayed loud enough, in fact, that Garrett emerged from the game with a scratchy throat, from having to shout over the noise emanating from the stands.
“I thought our fans were great (Sunday) night, too,” Garrett said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “In that kind of a game, against a team that is so close to us, a team that travels well, I think as a football team, hopefully we did a lot of things that made our fans stay involved in the game in a positive way. But that atmosphere really helped our team, and I thought that was really important for us to establish that--to have some success, them be behind us.
“It’s hard for teams to go on the road and deal with crowd noise and deal with a crowd that’s into it as much as our guys were last night. I thought it was a really good thing for our team, and we appreciate that certainly going forward when Houston comes to town this week.”
