Irvin Impressed by Dez Bryant's Mental Growth

Michael Irvin says Dez Bryant has exceeded his expectations in terms of the mental aspect of the game

Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin has been a Dez Bryant supporter since the very beginning, but even he has been surprised by how much Bryant has improved mentally over his first four NFL seasons.

“The sky is the limit. What we don’t talk about enough is the growth we’ve seen already because honestly, from year one to what we saw last year and the last few years… I knew he had it physically,” Irvin said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I, myself, questioned how much he could get it mentally in such a short period of time.

“Now when I sit and talk to Dez, he talks the game like he’s supposed to talk the game. He does understand it. It really shocked me to see the depth at which he’s learned the game. I’m expecting Dez to do great things.”

It might not have happened as quickly as the Cowboys had hoped, but Bryant does seem to be getting close to the kind of receiver the team thought he could be when they drafted him. In 2013, he had a career year with 93 catches, 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns on his way to his first career Pro Bowl appearance.
