Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton was forced to leave practice on Sunday with a strained groin and could miss the next few days of practice, according to owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
“We’ll have to take a little bit of a look at it,” Jones said, per ESPN Dallas.
Melton didn’t play in the team’s preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers last Thursday, but the team is hopeful that being reunited with Rod Marinelli--the Cowboys defensive coordinator, who coached Melton in Chicago--will lead him back to a Pro Bowl-level of play.
The good news is this latest injury has nothing to do with the torn ACL that ended Melton’s 2013 season.
“You can watch the tape and see ‘Does this guy look like this guy?’” Garrett said. “And like all guys coming off injuries they are probably not quite themselves. He needs a little more time and that’s the nature of this injury. The more time away from this surgery the better the guy gets if he works at it and he is certainly working hard at it.”
