Heath's First NFL Start Spoiled by Loss

Safety Jeff Heath had nine tackles and a forced fumble against Detroit on Sunday

Cowboys safety Jeff Heath could have had a great day on Sunday. The native of Lake Orion, Michigan--which is less than an hour’s drive from Detroit--posted nine tackles and a forced fumble in his first career start. The homecoming was spoiled, though, when Matt Stafford vaulted over the line with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter to send the Cowboys to a heartbreaking loss.

Left in shock by what he’d just seen, Heath didn’t want to talk about his big day, or the fumble he forced from Lions running back Reggie Bush on Sunday afternoon.

I am not really thinking about that right now,” Heath said after the loss, per the Dallas Morning News.

Heath now has 18 tackles on the season. There seems a good chance that he will return to a reserve role against the Vikings next week, if regular starter J.J. Wilcox is able to return from the sprained knee that kept him out of the Detroit game.
